Howard el-Yasin (He/They) is an interdisciplinary sculpture and installation artist, educator, and curator based in New Haven, CT. Their creative practice focuses on materiality, value systems, and marginalized identities, and they have exhibited nationally. They have attended residencies at Anderson Ranch, MASS MoCA, and Vermont Studio Center. They are a recipient of the Maryland Institute College of Art’s (MICA ‘16) Leslie King-Hammond Award (2016) and Faculty and Staff Queer Alliance Award (2015).
They are an adjunct professor at MICA and UCONN, and a visiting critic at the Yale School of Art. Before January 2022, they held managerial roles at Yale University for more than 3 decades.
They are the co-founder/co-curator of SomethingProjects (somethingprojects.net)—a nomadic curatorial initiative; and the former visual arts director of Arts+Literature Laboratory, New Haven, CT.
They currently serve on the Curatorial Advisory Board of the Ely Center of Contemporary Art, and have served as a trustee of Vermont Studio Center (2022-25), as well as a volunteer leader with numerous Connecticut-based non-profit organizations.
